Google Scholar is a subset of Google Web that specifically searches for scholarly literature including articles, theses, books, and court opinions. 

When you are on campus, Google Scholar will automatically link your account to the NCSU Library which helps connect you to articles that NCSU has access to. 

However, when you're off campus, you might see a message to buy an article from a publisher. 

This video shows you how to configure your Google Scholar account to the NCSU Library so that you have the same access to articles when off campus as you would if you were on campus.

Here's how to configure your Google Scholar settings.

First, log in to Google Scholar.

This will allow you to permanently save your preferences until you choose to change them. 

Once you've logged into your account, go to the Google Scholar homepage, and click in the settings link in the top righthand corner of your screen. 

Toward the top left of your screen, you will now see a button that says "Library links". 

Clicking on this link will take you to the "Library access links" search box.

Type NCSU into the search box, and click on the "Find Library" button at the right end of the search box.

When the page refreshes, check the North Carolina State University box, and update your settings by clicking the blue save button in the middle of your screen. 

Your Google Scholar account will now be linked to the NCSU Libraries. 

So you will see "Find Text @ NCSU" links within the set of Google Scholar results. 

You can also use Google Scholar to manage your citations.

You can select your preferred citation management program by using the bibliographic manager tool in the search results section of Scholar settings. 

Click the save button to save the changes that you made. 

Now you will see a link to import the citation listed under each item in your Google Scholar results list.
